“I’m the best actress in Ghana”…Socrates Sarfo’s Phil Ayisi

Though her near nude roles have fetched her loads of bashing from Ghanaian movie lovers, actress Phil Ayisi is unfazed and has no plans of backing down anytime soon.
The 26-year-old actress says she is very cool with showing flesh in movies and doesn’t understand why people are kicking a fuss over that because’it is no big deal’.
Talking to Graphic Showbiz last Monday, Phil said ‘there is nakedness all around us. There is nakedness on the beaches and at the beauty pageants so if I go semi-nude in movies where one has to interpret characters, I don’t see the reason why people should make a big deal out of it.
‘Movie producers have come to realise I play those roles very well. When I featured in Idikoko’s Office Romance, Socrate Safo also cast me in Hot Fork and then other producers also came on board as well’ Phil pointed out.
Phil who is also a model, revealed that despite losing a boyfriend for going almost nude in movies, she still doesn’t regret her action since acting is what makes her happy.
‘Nobody can stop me from doing what I love doing. If I have to bare flesh to make the character I am playing look as real as possible, I will do it. No boyfriend or husband can stop me from doing that.
‘My ex-boyfriend didn’t understand my choice of profession so we had to go our separate ways. I am ready to lose a thousand men if they are not happy with the roles I play.’
According to Phil, her parents sometimes get worried about the unsavoury comments people pass about her but she tells them not to worry since she is just acting and not sleeping around with men.
Despite the bashing she receives, Phil believes she is a very good actress.
‘I’m the best actress in Ghana because I’m versatile. The films I have featured in are out there to prove what I am saying. I can take up any role.’
On how she got into acting, Phil who used to dance for Reggie Rockstone and K.K Fosu, explained that she went to see a play at the University of Ghana, Legon where she met actor Eddie Nartey who encouraged her to go into acting.
She hails from Kwahu in the Eastern Region. Movies she has featured in include Love and Sex, What Sex Can Do, Ghana Condom, Rhapsody of Love, Twisted Tips, Things Fall Apart, My Own Sister, No Pain No Gain and Captain Smart.

Bola Ray gives birth to a ‘new baby’ in Takoradi

Contrary to speculations that Joy FM’s Kwabena Anokye Adisi aka Bola Ray will be leaving the station to establish his own radio station, the award-winning presenter has debunked the rumours, admitting that he is indeed setting up his own radio station but he is not leaving Joy FM.

After gaining 10 years of experience as host of Joy FM’s Drive Time, CEO of Empire Entertainment, Bola Ray thinks it is time to set up his own radio station. In a couple of weeks, Bola Ray’s Empire 102.7 FM, a radio station located in Takoradi will begin transmission.

Last Thursday, a visibly excited Bola told Showbiz, “I want to create employment for people; I know there are great talents who want platforms to bring out what they have so I took it upon myself to help such people.”

He was quick to add that he is still with Joy FM despite speculations making the rounds that he would be leaving the station soon. Bola Ray explained that his boss Kwesi Twum, CEO of Multimedia Group Of Companies is aware of the radio station he has established and has given him his full support. “Joy FM pays me very well and I don’t intend leaving there, the least I can do is to transmit my programme on Joy FM at Empire FM which my boss is very cool with” Bola said.

Explaining further, Bola Ray said Joy FM has given him good exposure, he recently won the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) Radio Show Host of the Year and he is not leaving Joy anytime soon. “I appreciate everything Joy has done in my life and I thank God for working there,” he added.

Throwing more light on his new baby, Bola, who has always dreamt of establishing his own radio station, said recruitment is still in progress for people who are interested in radio.

“ As we speak now, our jingles are ready, our members of staff are almost complete even though we are still recruiting, I believe in a couple of weeks, Empire 102.7 FM will be running” Bola said.

Talking about this year’s Back in the Day concert scheduled for December 6, Bola told Showbiz that American Hiphop artistes Naughty by Nature will be on the bill as well as Kontihene and other surprise acts.

Currently managing musicians Guru, Dobble and Dr Slim, Bola Ray, who is also the brain-child of Ghana Meets Naija said he is most grateful to all his loyal listeners because they made him who he is today and he dedicates his CIMG award to them.

Promzy is no longer part of VIP - Bulldog confirms

Emmanuel Ababio (Promzy) has left music group, Vision In Progress (VIP), after almost two decades of doing music with them.

The group, also made up of Joseph Nana Ofori (Prodigal), and Abdul Hamid Ibrahim (Lazzy now Zeal), went commercial in 1998 and over the years has been one of, if not, Ghana’s best music groups.

VIP was founded by Friction (Musah Haruna) and an unnamed friend who later left the group for the U.S. to finish his education. Friction later assembled four young talented musicians, Promzy, Lazzy, Prodigal, Bone to form the group. Bone left shortly after that.

Friction, after VIP released their second album, left the group explaining he felt it was time for him to embark on a solo career.

The remaining members of the group, Promzy, Zeal, Prodigal, thrilled Ghanaians with several hit songs and scooping several awards but Promzy suddenly exited the group to the shock and dismay of Ghanaians.

Manager of VIP, Bull Dog confirmed to Hitz Entertainment News that Promzy has left the group.

According to him, “Promzy exited the group based on personal reasons and as a group, VIP has a calling to its fan-base and VIP is bigger than one member of the group.”

Bull Dog noted, “VIP have come very far and they will not in any way disappoint [their fans].”

He was confident that, “VIP is here to stay and they are making sure they will never disappoint Ghana and Africa.”
